Initial situation

Fly quieter. Fly further.

Scho & Müller GmbH has developed biomimetic propellers that reduce acoustics, specifically influence disturbing frequency ranges and at the same time increase efficiency and range. As a plug-and-play solution, without having to change electronics or battery capacity.

OUR APPROACH

Multi-source bionics development

Nature is used as a toolbox optimised for over 3.8 billion years. From over one million biological studies/data, the most efficient structures from the world of birds, plants and underwater organisms are selected and transferred to rotor blades.

The unpleasant, characteristic and recognisable noise of a rotor blade can thus be specifically influenced!

measurement results

7 dB(A) quieter

A biomimicry propeller for drones (UAVs) shows here in direct comparison with conventional rotor blades a reduction in the sound level by almost 7 dB(A) over the entire frequency band with more than 10% better thrust or Efficiency.

The long-term target, according to the latest evaluations, will be 15 dB(A) and around 30% better thrust/efficiency.

FactorING

Production in the micrometre range

This makes precise manufacturing possible. We produce coarse structures in the millimetre range as well as fine structures in the micrometre range, which are only visible under magnification. The image shows a microserrated surface texture. The serration breaks up vortices and thus reduces the noise formation.

More than ten structures that we have already developed for a technical application are now being made scalable for various applications based on the Reynolds number.

Development, construction, prototype production and industrialisation take place in Germany. We also strive for large-scale series production with manufacturers in Germany and Europe.

YOUR USE

Fly quieter, fly further

Plug and Play

Also for existing drones. In this way, the technology can be economically integrated without having to redevelop the entire system.

Volume & Range

The thrust/efficiency increases because sound itself represents lost energy. It means less power loss, longer battery life and longer range with identical payload.

Widely transferrable

The approach works in all systems in which something rotates or a fluid flows around: propellers and rotors for multicopters, aircraft and hybrid systems as well as fans, blowers and cooling systems.
